DENTURES & PARTIALS

WHAT ARE DENTURES

A denture is a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures, partial and complete dentures. Partials are recommended when some natural teeth remain, while complete dentures are used to completely replace all teeth.

FIT AND FUNCTION

Everyone’s expectation for dentures is that they fit snugly, don’t become loose, don’t affect speech, enable eating of most favorite foods and have the appearance of natural teeth. To achieve these results we take into consideration every imaginable detail including fit, function and amazingly good looks.

PLACEMENT OF THE DENTURE

The initial denture placement involves the healing time following extractions, creating impressions for the new denture then going through a series of adjustments to the denture product as the gum tissues heal and reduce swelling. During this time the first denture is designed to function as an assessment tool that is used over time, to get everything “just right”. Re-linings for the initial denture create the data points used for modifying measurements for creating the final denture. The patient provides feedback and input during this phase to assure every important patient need is satisfied.

DENTURES AND AESTHETICS

The methods used for cosmetic dentures help create looks that are like natural teeth…not denture teeth. Differences in texture, whiteness shading, opalescence, size, rotation, incisal edges, cosmetic gaps are used to eliminate the appearance of mass produced denture teeth. Fleshy, tinted areas of the denture representing normal gum tissue are painstakingly stained by hand to convert what is suppose to be cold acrylic into something that looks like warm, live gum tissue, a product called Valplast.
